meet the Cascades. Southern Oregon Nordic skiers are blessed with a ring of snow surrounding the Rogue Valley during winter
Our normal ski season starts by early December and sometimes as early as the first week of November. Snow
cover at our usual venues starts getting thin by mid March, but skiers willing to travel to near by Crater Lake, Mt. Shasta,
or Telemark skiers interested in climbing Mt. McLaughlin and Mt. Scott extend their ski season into April, May and beyond.

BLM/SONC Groomer Report:
SONC Volunteers groom the Hyatt Lake BLM Campground and Buck Pr. Nordic trails. Timing and extent of grooming
depend on conditions. Check latest gromming report and be aware that snow conditions are dymamic.

Caution: Winter conditions are dynamic and snow conditions can change
by the hour. What was recently groomed can be drastically transformed by new snow, warming temperature, solar heat etc.
|Buck Prairie 1-28-2013
In partnership with the BLM, SONC volunteers are using a tracked Polaris ATV to pull a YTS tracksetter
and trail reconditioner to groom Hyatt Lake/Buck Prairie Nordic System trails. Thank you to the BLM for the equipment
and to Southern ONC members who contributed to the groomer fund and especially SONC members putting in the long hours operating
the grooming equipment.

29th John Day XC Race
2015 - Cancelled
Race organizers regret to announce the cancellation of the John Day XC Race
scheduled for February 15, 2015 at Diamond Lake. Snow pack at lake level is non-exisitant (i.e. bare ground). NOAA NWS
forecast as of 2-05-2015 predict proablble rain through the coming weekend with snow levels above 6000 feet. Lake level
is at about 5180 ft ASL.
