Cross country skiing in Southern Oregon?

Where the Siskiyous meet the Cascades. Southern Oregon Nordic skiers are blessed with a ring of snow surrounding the Rogue Valley during winter months.

Our normal ski season starts by early December and sometimes as early as the first week of November. Snow cover at our usual venues starts getting thin by mid March, but skiers willing to travel to near by Crater Lake, Mt. Shasta, or Telemark skiers interested in climbing Mt. McLaughlin and Mt. Scott extend their ski season into April, May and beyond.

Snow sports are of course weather dependent so check with the trip coordinator.

Spring's the time to rest a bit from a active winter, clean and check your equipment (See Current Condtions Page for some ski storage tips), restock your wax box and plan for the next winter.

March Meeting Program - Thanks go to Steve Kominsky of the Jackson County Search and Rescue for his talk on what Nordic skier and others can expect in terms of rescue when we need help in the woods. Steve suggestions included leaving ski tour destination info on your car dashboards, staying on the ski trails or roads if you need help (they will search the trails/roads first), and be prepared.
